Hot tips for December TV
As we do every year around this time, we’ve compiled all the stats (plus some extra gossip) surrounding the three big Xmas reality shows – Strictly Come Dancing, The X Factor, and I’m A Celebrity.
So if you fancy a pre-Xmas flutter on some of the more inventive bets, here’s all the information you need…
Duncan Bannatyne is such a big Chesney Hawkes fan he hired him to play his 60th birthday party.
>> Spencer flakey <<
Why Chelsea was booted?
Lots of gossip among TV types down under about why producers really booted Spencer off the show. Some maintain that the steroids story sounds like the truth. Others say they found a lot more in his luggage.
Spencer has been a drug pig of some renown but the last time he got caught hoofing gak on camera his old man bought up all the photos. However, as his blue-blood lawyers made some heavy threats to publications, you’d have to be a crack pot to speculate any further.
Brian Friedman’s not all bad. He choreographed and danced in Aphex Twin’s Windowlicker video.
1. I’m A Celebrity…
…Get Me Out Of Here
Final Show: 6th December
Favourite: Vicky Pattinson
Stats To Remember:
* 70% winners have been male
* Even split between young and old celebs
* TV stars do best; music and sports stars next
* Still waiting for its first non-white winner (in 14 series…)
What To Watch For:
* The second favourite tends to win; not the favourite
* Those who are prominent/loud early on lose popularity as viewers get bored
* Good natured, easy-going campmates tend to make finals
* Need to do at least one trial outstandingly well to pick up support
Last Year:
Final three were Mel Sykes, Jake Quickenden, Carl Fogarty
* One TV, one music, one sport
* Carl did exceptionally well in trials
This Year:
* Vicky (the favourite) is charming everyone so far
* Lady C/Duncan/Tony are too divisive to last
* Chris/Kieran/Jorgie fit the ‘nice enough’ profile to make the final three.
Possible Bets:
* First eviction: Susannah (4-1)
* King of the Jungle: Kieran (5-1) or Chris (4-1)

Love for Louisa
Contrary to what a lot of people think, we’re pretty sure The X Factor isn’t fixed – but this season looks to be hitting new heights of behind-the-scenes manipulation.
We predicted they’d find a way to undermine Anton if he ever proved too popular, and we also mentioned this in a previous mailout:
“Interesting to see early X Factor favourite Louisa has already dropped her unwieldy Twitter handle @louisajohnson0 in favour of the much snappier @louisa.
“Impressive work on snagging that name for yourself, Louisa!”
So if anyone saw last week’s episode, with Louisa singing all dressed in angelic white, aided by some pretty nifty audio backing, with the judges lining up to link her performance with that of prior stars Leona and Fleur, then you might have picked up on where they want the Syco contract to go this year.
Olly Murs has his say on N-Dubz: “Dappy is small but in other ways quite big, yeah.”
2. X Factor
Final show: 12th December
Favourite: Louisa
Winners Stats to Remember.
* Male soloists most likely to win (7 out of 11)
* Only one group has won (even One Direction came third)
* Early favourites rarely win (Janet Devlin, Ella Henderson, Danyl Johnson, Diana Vickers)
* Age and racial background are not major vote factors
* From this week, whoever is leading the voting tends to go on and win
* Favourites can end up in the sing-off and still go on to win (e.g. James Arthur – it can prompt people to vote)
Last Year:
1st Ben, 2nd Fleur, 3rd Andrea
* Fleur obviously favoured by producers but only came second
* Winner Ben fitted perfectly traditional male solo pattern
This Year:
There’s no usual boy-next-door type, like Ben to dominate. Unless Lauren can get past the bad PR being flung at her Che’s perhaps the alternative. But confessing this week he had a girlfriend might have put paid to that. (We’re voting Reggie and Bollie.)
Louisa 4/9
Che 7/1
Possible bets:
* Next elimination: If Lauren ends up in the bottom two we can’t see judges saving her (5-2)
* Final Two: Louisa/Reggie & Bollie (7-2)

Strictly fizzes over
What with all the hot, lithe bodies of the professional dancers, Strictly has always caused its audience to get fizzy knickers.
One of this year’s finalists knows all about that. Part of his sexual repertoire when he was young involved experimenting with effervescent aspirin tablets which he used to place inside his chosen lucky lady, for a full, frothy experience.
(And if you honestly can’t guess who, you don’t deserve to know…).
Back in his pop days Jay met Cheryl Cole at a celeb party. All he could think of saying was that he liked her waxwork in Madam Tussauds. She walked off very unimpressed.
3. Strictly Come Dancing
Final Show: 20th December
Current favourite: Jay McGuinness
Winners Stats To Remember:
* No pro dancer has won more than once
* Gender not a factor in voting; winners have split 50-50
* Mainstream TV stars do well
* Sports stars and WAGS do well, but soap stars better
* Contestants with previous dance experience tend to do no better than runner-up
Last Year:
Frankie went into the final as favourite but it was very close run between Frankie, Simon from Blue and winner TV’s Caroline Flack.
This Year:
* Helen and Jay’s partners have won previously. All the other pros are still to win.
* Finalists choose their best dance. Despite his pro Aliona being a previous winner (and not that popular in the show, by all accounts) surely Jay’s jive is unbeatable?

Suggested Bets:
* Next elimination: Peter Andre (7-2)
* Katie top 3? (5/2)
* Fancy a very long shot? Anita to win (10-1)

4. BBC Sports Personality
Show: 21st December
Current Favourite: Jess Ennis
Nominations announced Monday but stats to remember:
* Individual stars do better than team sports (athletics and F1 top)
* Male stars slightly more likely to win – though women athletes do well
* Sports with committed fanbases can get behind a chosen candidate
* The nationality spread of winners in past 10 years had been even, but traditionally English winners dominate

5. Xmas Number One
Announcement: 25th Dec
Favourite: Louisa X Factor’s almost evens for Xmas No 1.
